Miss Utah 2009?

This is Kaitlin.

Kaitlin is very pretty. Not only is Kaitlin pretty, she is sweet, fun, sincere, helpful, and dang easy to photograph.

Oh ya, she is also running for Miss Utah next week! Kaitlin is the current reigning Miss American Fork, if you remember. She has had an awesome year and has been very active in her community.

We are so excited to spent next week watching Kaitlin compete in talent, swimwear, evening wear, and interview. We know she is going to do an absolutely fantastic job!!

(oh yeah. Go here and sent Kaitlin some voting love. Just click to vote for Miss American Fork on the left side poll)

As in years past, we will again be photographing the Miss American Fork Pageant this August. We get to spend all summer with the contestants, so watch for some fun updates!

Cans for Comments is done. Over. Finito.

After 8 days of the Cans For Comments drive, we reached 26 comments. yay!

Thats 26 cans of green beans. Or 26 boxes of Mac & Cheese. Or 26 cans of SPAM. (except, probably not) However we decide to divvy it up, its 26 small ways to help.

We will document our trip the the grocery store to prove we are following through, so stay check back for that riveting post. In the meantime, we have lots….yes, LOTS of sessions from November that have yet to see blogging light, so those are next on the agenda.

Hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday season.  We are so excited for many of the things we have up our sleeves for 2009 and we hope to see you there!

Cans For Comments!

There is a little movement going around the photography world called Cans For Comments, and we are more than happy to jump on the bandwagon!!  (Or CAN-wagon!  Bahaha.)

It’s simple. You comment. We donate a can or non-perishable item to a local food bank for every comment received. You make us feel warm, fuzzy and loved, and someone less fortunate gets to eat. Win-win, no? So comment long, comment short, comment often or only once…just do it! More and more we are hearing of food shelters coming up short this season. This is such a simple way to do a little for someone else! (Oh, and it’s going on for the next 7 days.)

Want to make an even bigger difference? Check out these other photographers who are also participating. (And why not continue to pay it forward and start this on your own blog–photographer or not?)

Leavin’ on a jet plane…

Okay, so its not exactly a cruise or exotic vacation, but we are outta here! We have 2 weddings and 1 engagement session to shoot in Wisconsin, and we couldn’t be more excited!  It’s only for 5 days, no worries. We will be back to full swing next week, with lots of posts of really cute kids, fun families, and the most unique weddings we have shot to date!

Because of the trip, replies to email or voicemail may be a little delayed this week. We will have access to both, however, so we will get back to you as soon as we can!

Wish us luck! (and if you know of anything amazing to see or do in Wisconsin, let us know!)

Congratulations, Miss AF!

I know, I know, I know.  This post is almost a month late.  Better late than never right?

We can’t miss our opportunity to congratulate the new Miss American Fork 2008, Kaitlin Hale!  All the ladies did a wonderful job at the pageant.  They were all so confident and beautiful; It was an honor for Aubrey and me to be a part of it.

We are so proud of Kaitlin, Juli, Carrie, and all the girls for representing American Fork so well!  We can’t wait to support Kaitlin at Miss Utah next year!

Miss American Fork 2008 Royalty:
2nd Attendant: Carrie Helland, Miss American Fork: Kaitlin Hale, 1st Attendant: Juli Carter

And of course, we can’t forget the teen girls.  Congratulations to Jessica Taylor who was crowned the very first American Fork Outstanding Teen.  This pageant, for girls ages 13-17, is a first for American Fork.  Jessica now has the chance to compete for Utah’s Outstanding Teen in October.  We wish her the very best of luck!

Miss American Fork 2008

Hang on! I am finally updating the blog with the last few weeks of amazing shoots! We are also right in the middle of launching an all new website and blog, so stay tuned for some exciting changes!

We’ll start things off with what has been occupying a large chunk of our time lately…the upcoming Miss American Fork 2008 Scholarship Pageant. We have been heavily involved with the pageant this year and have had so much fun getting to know these girls. They all have amazing goals and are all so self-aware and confident!

Meet Liesl. She is the reigning 2007 Miss American Fork, who will be handing her crown down to this year’s winner. We had the opportunity to spend a week in Salt Lake watching Liesl compete for Miss Utah. She did a fantastic job…but more about that later!

This year, the pageant director extraordinaire Staci wanted a fun, fresh approach to the pageant. The Miss America program is trying to get away from the stereotypical pageant, where everyone is plastic and fake and wants “world peace”. They want real girls, with real goals, real problems and real confidence.

Meet the contestants!

Contestant #1 – Breanna Proctor

Contestant #2 – Adrienne Shelley

Contestant #3 – Trina Williams

Contestant #4 – Kelli Sumsion

Contestant #5 – Alliesha O’Neal

Contestant #6 – Jennifer Chambers

Contestant #7 – Kaitlin Hale

Contestant #8 – Carrie Helland

Contestant #9 – Juli Carter

If you’re in the area, you should definitely think about coming to the pageant! It will be held August 16th, 7:00 p.m. at the American Fork High School. Come watch the girls compete, as well as Sam and I in photo-action!

We will also be choosing one of these lovely ladies to be named ‘Miss Photogenic’ at the pageant. Any guesses? Who is your favorite?

Liesl Wright – Miss American Fork 2007

Liesl has done an amazing job as the 2007-2008 Miss American Fork. She has worked with city officials and schools to help implement her platform, Teenage Financial Awareness. She has been an integral part in getting a financial literacy class required for graduating seniors, and has really shown how much she is capable of!

We spent the week in Salt Lake watching Liesl compete for Miss Utah about a month ago. She did an incredible job! She wanted photos of her in each of her competition outfits…here are a few of my favorites.

Her beautiful evening gown. Unfortunately it wasn’t finished in time to be worn for the competition, but it is so beautiful we had to get a couple shots of it!

Liesl is a very accomplished ballroom dancer. She put together an amazing routine-not an easy thing to choreograph when you are used to dancing with a partner all the time!

Her awesome, patriotic shoes for the Miss Utah “Show Your Shoes” parade!

Vegas, Baby

Aubrey and I just returned from Vegas and wow, it was AMAZING! We attended WPPI 2008 (that’s Wedding and Portrait Photographers International for all you lay people.)
We spent Saturday through Wednesday in Vegas with our awesome photo friends Amy and Kelly.
We had SUCH a blast with you girls!!

Our week was jam packed with some awesome classes, and of course, parties!
Sunday night we hit up the Photography Mentor party at a posh penthouse at Mandalay Bay and then made an appearance at the Celebrity Suite at The Palms for the Pixel 2 Canvas party.

Click here to see some more photos of our adventures.

The Photography Mentor party was awesome and we got to rub elbows with some photography ROCK STARS: Jesh de Rox, [b]ecker, Jessica Claire, and LaCour. It was incredible.

Here’s us with Jesh de Rox:

and Becker:

We didn’t take many of our own photos, but you can check out this and this by the Lovecat herself, Anne Ruthmann

Anne also co-hosted our Monday night adventure with the Pay It Forward Blog. We chilled at the iBar at The Rio for a ROCKING party full of free stuff! I won my own set of Totally Rad Actions and Aubrey won a 16×20 Canvas Gallery Wrap from WHCC!

I actually have a photo of this one! Here’s me and Amy with our new buddy, Phil from New Yawk.

Unfortunately, this was the only photo of mine that actually turned out. It was way too late at night to get anything in focus, as you can see here:

As you can see, I didn’t take this one, so you can’t blame the bad photos ENTIRELY on me.

But apparently, I take a better photo of the casino than of the people in it.

Luckily, there are more awesome people who take better photos than me. Check out the party from Abby’s perspective.

And look! One of our most favorite companies ever, KISS wedding books had another photo booth at the trade show. Naturally, we had to show off their gorgeous albums!
(Note to our clients: We are now offering these BEAUTIFUL, leatherbound, flush-mount albums, so ask us for more info!)

So basically, it was the best week ever. I know I didn’t really talk about anything photography, but the parties are more flashy. We did get some GREAT learning in the classes we attended. Jesh de Rox and Jared Bauman’s presentations were by far my favorite.
It was definitely a great experience and we hope we can do it again next year!!

And of course, there is only one way to spend your last night in Vegas:
